New for 2012 – Claiming Rule Team (CRT)

There will be two types of MotoGP bike on the grid in 2012 with prototypes used by manufacturers and some select satellite teams, and the Claiming Rule Team (CRT) bikes with production based engines and larger fuel tanks.

With nine entries, CRT is swelling MotoGP’s ranks this year. Many of these new riders will experience the top flight class of MotoGP for the first time and will use modified production engines from Honda, Kawasaki, Aprilia and BMW. The regulations that apply to CRT engines allow special tuning advantages, the ability to have twice as many engines available for the season and the advantage of a larger fuel tank than the prototype factory bikes used by the likes of World Champions Repsol Honda Team. This should make for some interesting racing!
