After Andrea Dovizioso was given the green light to continue at Ducati alongside new signing Jorge Lorenzo, there was no room for Iannone – but he soon had a new suitor in Suzuki, and the deal was done within days. He obviously doesn't have a manager... After wheelstanding his way around Valencia in his first ride on the Suzuki, the Italian soon settled down and the results have been extremely positive – including sandwiching Maverick Vinales and Marc Marquez at Sepang. Vinales proved that in the right hands the Suzuki can be very competitive, so Iannone could do worse than draw inspiration from that – and he never backs away from a challenge. That's occasionally caused some angst with other riders, but time is a good healer. Now a MotoGP™ race winner after taking the Ducati to victory at Red Bull Ring in 2016, but the watershed moment for the 'Maniac' probably came a year earlier at Phillip Island when he matched wits and speed with Marquez, Rossi and Lorenzo.
