Biography

Third in the independent rider standings for 2016 was a brilliant result for Barbera, who came to grips with the new Michelin tyres and spec electronics fairly early on in the piece and reaped the rewards. When Ducati factory rider Andrea Iannone came down with injury, Barbera deputised for him in Japan and Australia but he didn't make the splash he had probably hoped for. The veteran, who turns 31 in 2017, will again be in there fighting like he always has. Barbera is a 10-time Grand Prix winner, six in 125cc and four in the 250s, and he's finished second in both those championships as well. He was the last ever winner of a 250cc GP before the class morphed into the Moto2 formula.
