Has anyone adapted to a new bike in recent times as well as Vinales has to the Yamaha? It's hard to think of one, because from the very first outing at Valencia last November he has been a missile – and seemingly still not pushing himself to the absolute limit. Yet. Vinales won his first MotoGP™ race at Silverstone last year on the Suzuki, but by then had made his mind to leave the company and replace Jorge Lorenzo at Yamaha. He made a quantum leap in 2016 from 12th to fourth, and now he's well positioned to contend for the ultimate prize. Vinales already has a World Title under his belt in Moto3™ and the experience of a single season in Moto2™. He entered Grand Prix racing in 2011 — the final year of the 125cc story. His maiden victory came in France as he finished his rookie year in third place. Same again in 2012: he was the first winner in the new Moto3™ class and took four more victories to be third overall. But in 2013 he powered his way to the title even though he won less often.
