Marquez brothers open up on motivation at Repsol Honda Team launch

Alex Marquez and Marc Marquez answer questions at the Team Repsol Honda launch 2020

Brothers Marc and Alex Marquez are raring to go ahead of the 2020 MotoGP™ season, with more history on their mind.

The pair will become the first brothers to race on the same MotoGP™ team but bigger goals are on the horizon as Repsol Honda Team eye a 26th manufacturers title.

Marc, of course, is eyeing an incredible seventh world championship, and said he is not resting on his laurels ahead of the new season.

Speaking at the launch of the 2020 livery of the Honda RC213V MotoGP™ machine in Jakarta, Marc said: “We approach this year the same as the last and all the others before it, with our full focus and ready to work with the Repsol Honda Team to achieve the best we can.

“Together with HRC and Repsol we have achieved incredible things and continuing this success is a big source of motivation for me.

“Now I’m eager to start another season and compete again on the RC213V.”

A huge sense of intrigue surrounds Alex, the 2019 Moto2™ world champion.

Three years younger than Marc, Alex spent five years in Moto2™, and he replaces three-time world champion Jorge Lorenzo at Repsol Honda, who retired after a difficult 2019 campaign.

“It is a privilege to be part of the family that is the Repsol Honda Team,” Alex said.

“Already I have had the special feeling of stepping in the garage for the first time, working with my team for the first time and now meeting the world at the launch - I truly feel a part of the Repsol Honda Team.

“I know that there is much to learn and achieve in 2020 but I am devoted to giving my best.

“I’ll try to improve and learn every day and hope we can do a great season, step by step.”

MotoGP™ pre-season testing continues in Sepang on Friday, ahead of the 2020 season opener in Qatar in March.
