Miller fights back to claim top-10 finish

Jack Miller turned into the apex at the San Marino MotoGP 2019

Australian Jack Miller overcame a difficult weekend at the San Marino GP, surging through the field to salvage important MotoGP™ points.

Miller was one of several Ducati riders struggling to deliver consistent lap times in practice and qualifying, with warm temperatures proving a challenge for tyre management.

Andrea Dovizioso (P6) was the only Ducati rider to qualify in the top 10, while Miller had his worst qualifying result of the season, starting from 16th on the grid.

But Miller stayed resilient in the race, charging confidently through the field on the first lap to gain a remarkable seven places.

The Aussie defended his position against Joan Mir (Suzuki Ecstar) for much of the race but was forced to settle for ninth place at the chequered flag after the Spaniard overtook him.

MotoGP™ Championship leader Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda) took the lead from French rookie Fabio Quartararo (Petronas Yamaha) on the last lap to win the race, the pair followed closely behind by Maverick Vinales (Monster Energy Yamaha).

The result moves Quartararo up to top spot in the Independent Team Rider's standings, 11 points ahead of Miller.

Miller returns to the track this weekend at the Aragon GP on 20-22 September.
