Australian rider Remy Gardner caught the eye with an impressive performance at day one of Moto2™ testing in Jerez.
The Onexox TKKR SAG Team rider was fastest in testing on Wednesday (local time), zipping around the track in a best time of 1:40.848s.
Gardner did not just go fastest - he also broke the lap record, an encouraging sign ahead of what shapes as a crucial 2020 season.
Just two riders, Italtrans Racing Team’s Enea Bastianini and Liqui Moly Intact GP’s Tom Luthi, were able to get within half a second of Gardner.
Last year’s Moto2™ European champion, Edgar Pons, was fourth quickest.
Gardner is still searching for his first Moto2™ win, but finished second in the Argentina race last year.
He finished 15th in the 2019 standings.
Moto2™ testing continues in Spain for two more days before another run of testing in Qatar starts later this month.
Qatar also hosts the season-opening event from March 6-8.
