Australia’s Remy Gardner has secured his maiden Grand Prix pole position in a monumental qualifying session at the Dutch GP in Assen.
After leading the pack in Free Practice 3, the ONEXOX TKKR SAG team member continued his quick pace in qualifying, throwing down the gauntlet in two flying laps that placed him firmly on the top of the standings with a best lap time of 1’36.572.
Brad Binder and Xavi Vierge were both hotly on the tail of Gardner in the last minutes of qualifying but failed to eclipse the Australian’s pace.
Gardner’s maiden pole position puts him in fine company with fellow previous Australian pole sitters Mick Doohan, Casey Stoner and father Wayne Gardner.
The Australian will look to convert his pole position to a podium finish in Assen, with the Moto2™ race beginning at 8.20pm AEST.
