If you didn’t expect to see Lorenzo Savadori in MotoGP, the Italian probably didn't either.
Lorenzo Savadori

Savadori finished 19th in the final race of the 2010 125cc season at Valencia, and then left the world championship to ply his trade in the FIM World Superstock 1000 Cup and World Superbikes before becoming Aprilia's test rider for 2020. Then things changed fast.

Andrea Iannone's ban for doping saw Bradley Smith step in for the bulk of 2020, with Savadori replacing the Briton for the final three Grands Prix of the year.

Aprilia unsuccessfully tried to lure MotoGP veterans Cal Crutchlow and Andrea Dovizioso for 2021 before switching gears in an attempt to sign Moto2 riders Marco Bezzecchi, Fabio Di Giannantonio and Joe Roberts, all of whom rejected their overtures.

By default, Savadori's promotion from test rider to fully-fledged racer became more permanent as teammate to the Noale factory's shining light, Aleix Espargaro.
