Colin Edwards: Marc Marquez return puts MotoGP™ grid on notice

Thursday, 15 April 2021

The Spaniard poses a big threat.

The official Australian Grand Prix podcast In the Fast Lane has released a new MotoGP episode, with two-time World Superbike Champion and 12-time premier-class podium finisher Colin Edwards.

Edwards joined co-hosts Matt Clayton and Chris Vermeulen to discuss the first two MotoGP races of 2021 and his take on Ducati’s season so far.

Following a dream start for Monster Energy Yamaha, Edwards says the MotoGP grid has been put on notice ahead of this weekend’s Portuguese GP and the long-awaited return of Marc Marquez.

“He is so dominant – he has so much self-belief and he believes he is supposed to be on the top step at every race,” Edwards said.

Marquez underwent a lengthy recovery after falling at the Spanish GP in 2020, but the Texas Tornado believes he still poses a big threat.

“I think he’s hungry and you find a hungry Marquez and put him on the track, I think that’s a scary combination,” Edwards said.

“Marquez, man, he could very easily be the GOAT.”

While all eyes will be on six-time World Champion Marquez in Portugal, Edwards says another rider to watch is young gun Joan Mir.

“I think he is the only one on the grid that has the confidence to say, ‘Hey, look at me – I’m the World Champion.’”

The podcast is available on Spotify, Google Podcasts and Apple Podcasts platforms.
