Jenson Button talks F1® on In the Fast Lane

Tuesday, 25 August 2020

Dedicated to the world of Formula 1® and MotoGP™.

The Australian Grand Prix Corporation podcast In the Fast Lane has released this week’s episode with special guest, 2009 Formula 1® World Champion, Jenson Button.

Button joined In the Fast Lane co-hosts Matt Clayton and Michael Lamonato to discuss Lewis Hamilton’s talent, Fernando Alonso's dramatic return to Formula 1® and Daniel Ricciardo's moves, first to Renault and now to McLaren from next season.

Speaking about Ricciardo’s move to Renault in 2019, Button shared his initial shock at the decision and why he thinks he really made the call to leave Red Bull.

“I was massively surprised by his move to Renault, I would have loved to have seen him in a Red Bull for the last couple of years pushing Max, they would have pushed each other so much and that would have been a great battle to see,” Button said.

“I know he’s paid a lot of money at Renault, but he was also paid a lot of money at Red Bull so I don’t think it was a cash issue...I think it goes back to not feeling equal to your teammate and not feeling wanted in the team, and I think that’s the reason why he’s made that move,” he continued.

Jenson also shared his love for Melbourne and the Formula 1® Australian Grand Prix – which he won three times – saying the Albert Park circuit is one of his favourites.

“I love Albert Park, I love Melbourne. Great circuit, I had some good overtaking moves as well as the victories, pole positions and great battles there. Everyone just loves arriving in Melbourne, we walk into the paddock at Albert Park and it’s like a breath of fresh air.”

The podcast is available on Spotify, Google Podcasts and Apple Podcasts platforms as well as being uploaded to AGPC’s official YouTube channels.
