Mick Doohan discusses Austrian near catastrophe

Tuesday, 18 August 2020

The Australian legend discusses crashes, controversy and Miller's first podium of 2020.

The Australian Grand Prix Corporation podcast In the Fast Lane has released this week’s episode with special guest, five-time 500cc Motorcycle World Champion, Mick Doohan.

Doohan joined In the Fast Lane co-hosts Matt Clayton and Michael Lamonato to discuss crashes, contract controversy and Jack Miller's first podium of 2020 at the Austrian Grand Prix.

When focussing on Valentino Rossi’s call for more respect between riders after the terrifying collision between Franco Morbidelli and Johann Zarco at the Austrian Grand Prix, Doohan said this comes from Rossi’s extensive experience.

“He’s got a lot of experience, he’s seen a lot of bad things happen, he knows what can happen by swapping paint and using elbows and perhaps that’s what he’s trying to get across, you don’t actually need to be doing that,” Doohan said.

“In a fatherly figure type of way, he’s trying to say, ‘cool your jets’ and ride with their heads rather than their shoulders,” he continued.

The podcast is available on Spotify, Google Podcasts and Apple Podcasts, as well as being uploaded to AGPC’s official YouTube channels.
