Miguel to bring Paellatron to The Island

Tuesday, 18 July 2023

Beloved Spanish-Australian chef Miguel Maestre is taking on an ambassador role for the upcoming MotoGP™ Guru by Gryfyn Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix.

An avid motorcycle fan and rider himself, Maestre will bring his iconic Paellatron to the October 20-22 event, a three-metre-wide dish that can cook up to 1500 serves of Paella at a time. It will be the first Victorian outing for the Paellatron, which holds 150kg of rice and 450 litres of broth.

Maestre has worked in some of the world’s best restaurants, including Tony Bilson’s Number One and the renowned El Bulli in Spain. His talent for incorporating Spanish ingredients and techniques into his menus helped cement his recipes as favourites, as evidenced by his three best-selling books.

His co-hosting role on the four-time Logie-winning show ‘The Living Room’ made him a household name, as did his winning stint on ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’

Maestre will be giving his signature high-energy demonstrations during the three-day event, giving fans the opportunity to learn (and taste) his famous paella recipe first-hand.

Miguel is looking forward to combining his two loves: “Spanish heritage runs deeply through MotoGP and I can’t wait to see my loves for cooking and motorsport combine at the beautiful Phillip Island circuit.”

“This will be the very first time the Paellatron will be in Victoria, and I can’t think of a better group to cook for than the sport’s passionate fans.”

Along with plenty of off-track entertainment soon to be announced, the new MotoGP™ sprint race format is set to join the weekend’s Saturday line-up ahead of the main race on the Sunday.
