Gardner 'ready to give everything' for Moto2™ top five

Monday, 9 November 2020

The Aussie claimed his third podium of the season on Sunday.

Australia’s Remy Gardner had another excellent showing at the European GP, claiming his third podium of the 2020 Moto2™ season.

The 22-year-old SAG Racing Team rider crossed the line in third place on Sunday, in the first of two consecutive Moto2™ races to be held at Valencia.

Gardner, who started from fourth on the grid, stayed in podium contention throughout the race before Sam Lowes (EG 0,0 Marc VDS), the Moto2™ World Championship leader, crashed out on the seventh lap.

The incident gifted P3 to the Aussie, which he confidently held until the chequered flag.

“The track conditions in qualifying were tricky but we did a good lap and managed to take fourth, which I was pleased about,” Gardner said.

“Today was a little bit like going into the unknown as it was the only really dry day since we got here, but I felt good on the bike and I thought that we could have a good result.

“Third gives us some more really important points in the fight for P5 in the overall standings and I’ll give it everything next week to close in on Jorge (Martin).

“I’m super happy with the team and the work we’ve done, it’s another great result and another podium.”

The Moto2™ race was won by Marco Bezzecchi (SKY Racing Team VR46), followed by Martin (Red Bull KTM Ajo).

Enea Bastianini (Italtrans Racing Team) finished fourth, leapfrogging Lowes to take the Moto2™ World Championship lead with 184 points.

Gardner returns to racing again this weekend for the Valencia GP, the penultimate round of the season, scheduled for 13-15 November.
