Joan Mir: 'Championship the main target'

Wednesday, 4 November 2020

The Spaniard discusses his season and surprising championship lead.

The Australian Grand Prix Corporation podcast In the Fast Lane has released this week’s episode presented by spokes.com.au with MotoGP™ rider and current championship leader, Joan Mir.

Mir joined In the Fast Lane co-hosts Matt Clayton and Michael Lamonato to talk about his title chances and why this season has been so unpredictable.

Mir discusses his season so far and how he went from not finishing the first race of the season to leading the championship with three races to go.

“At the beginning of this year we saw some great potential but for some reason we were not able to do the results, whether it be from crash, something happened. After Bruno I said okay, we have to change something… I don’t know what changed but in Austria I was able to fight for the podium and to be on the podium, something changed on my mind and consciously and I don’t know how, I was able to give this a stronger end to the season,” said Mir.

“I am looking forward to getting the championship, that is for sure the main target…I like the way I’m approaching the races, so I’ll just continue like this,” he continued.

Mir goes on to explain why he believes there has been over eight different winners throughout the 2020 MotoGP™ season so far.

“Well first of all the manufacturers, all the bikes, are really really competitive, this is the main difference. This year all the bikes are really similar, also it’s a bit strange, we go for example to La Mans in October, this cold, these things are pretty difficult to understand. Now a days all of the riders are really well prepared,” said Mir.

The podcast is available on Spotify, Google Podcasts and Apple Podcasts platforms as well as being uploaded to AGPC’s official YouTube channels.
