The Barry Sheene Tribute Ride is back

The Barry Sheene Tribute Ride will return in October, marking its 18^th anniversary ahead of the Animoca Brands Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix 2022.

In honour of Sheene, who lost his battle with cancer in 2003, the 270-kilometre charity event will depart Bairnsdale on Thursday, 13 October, with participants making their way through Gippsland’s countryside. Riders will visit Morwell and San Remo before taking part in a lap of the scintillating Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit.

Barry Sheene MBE was a British motorcycle champion who migrated to Australia in the late 1980’s. Throughout his illustrious career, Sheene recorded 23 Grand Prix victories and won two 500CC World Championships in 1976 and 1977. In later years, he continued his passion by becoming involved in historic motorcycle racing and was a beloved commentator – further becoming part of Australian motorsport culture.

Working in partnership with the East Gippsland Shire, Latrobe City, and Bass Coast Shire Councils, the Australian Grand Prix Corporation is thrilled to bring the annual memorial ride back to Phillip Island and raise money for charity.

Tickets cost $50 per rider, with all profits going to the Animoca Brands Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix 2022 Official Charity Partner – the Phillip Island Community and Learning Centre.

More than 9,000 people have taken part in the Barry Sheene Tribute Ride since the first event in 2004.

The Animoca Brands Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix 2022 will return to Phillip Island on Friday, 14 October to Sunday, 16 October and the three-day event features a huge on-track line up including MotoGP™, Moto2™, Moto3™, National Superbikes and the Oceania Junior Championship.
