Wayne Gardner: KTM is the right choice for Remy

Thursday, 29 July 2021

The Aussie will be graduating to MotoGP™ next season.

The official Australian Grand Prix podcast In the Fast Lane has released its latest episode, featuring 1987 500cc World Champion, Wayne Gardner.

Gardner joined In the Fast Lane co-hosts Matt Clayton and Chris Vermeulen, to discuss the evolution of his son Remy and how he has used the momentum of a maiden Moto2™ victory last year to lead this year's championship and his MotoGP™ move with KTM for 2022.

“Without a doubt, winning so convincingly… that gave him the confidence that I can do this and now he understands how to manage the tyres as well,” said Gardner.

Gardner goes on to discuss the success of KTM in MotoGP™ in recent years, why it’s the right move for Remy and how he believes Honda has lost its way.

“I’ve been watching the pace of KTM, they’re incredible, I know the people now and they’re an amazing team of people, Aki is a genius, if he spots talent he knows how to extract it from them,” he continued.

“I think the KTM bike has improved enormously those guys want to win badly, I think Honda have lost their way, they have too many laurels resting on Marquez. He was obviously out for a year or so and they had no results... KTM are definitely on the path of destruction and growth.”

The podcast is available on Spotify, Google Podcasts and Apple Podcasts platforms.
