Miguel Oliveira: 2021 MotoGP™ Championship is the fiercest in years

Thursday, 24 June 2021

The Portuguese rider finished second in Germany.

The official Australian Grand Prix podcast In the Fast Lane has released its latest episode, featuring Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider and MotoGP™ challenger Miguel Oliveira.

The three-time MotoGP™ race winner joined In the Fast Lane co-hosts Matt Clayton and Chris Vermeulen to discuss his current championship campaign and how a family with a big dream, but little money, managed to make it to the premier class.

Currently riding his first full season with Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, Oliveira says the absence of Marc Marquez in 2020 made this year’s championship fiercer than usual.

“That little twitch can make everyone believe they can win the championship and become World Champion,” said Oliveira.

“I think we are seeing one of the most competitive championships ever in terms of race space and qualifying lap times.”

Last year Oliveira won his home Grand Prix in Portugal – but says it wasn’t an easy ride to the top.

“I don’t come from a wealthy family, we struggled sometimes to go to the races … fortunately I had a father that never gave up on what he saw as a passion of mine.”

“It is a huge privilege to have a parent that doesn’t give up on his children’s dream and I am of course here because of all his efforts,” he continued.

The podcast is available on Spotify, Google Podcasts and Apple Podcasts platforms.
