Stage set for a Sensational Saturday

Records fell, rivals responded, and Saturday promises even more speed and drama at Phillip Island.

After records were smashed during the opening practice sessions, the Saturday programme for the Liqui Moly Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix 2025 offers fans a mouth-watering feast.

All eyes will be on the MotoGP™ riders when they take to the track for the 40-minute free practice session at 10:10am. With the withering speed shown by Marco Bezzecchi and Raul Fernandez on Friday, this will be the opposition’s last chance to find all the pace they can muster to challenge the Aprilia duo for pole once qualifying gets underway.

That happens at 10:50am, when Pramac Yamaha’s Jack Miller takes to the track with 13 other riders in an attempt to make the top two spots and advance to the second qualifying session, set for 11:15am.

Prepare yourself to see the fastest motorcycles in the world take the lap record apart again. Jorge Martin may be recovering at home, and with his absence, his fastest time from 2023 has already been erased from the record books. It is likely to happen again.

The MotoGP™ Sprint is set to run over 13 laps at 3:00pm, and that could be Bezzecchi’s best chance of seeing the chequered flag first for the weekend. The Italian has a double Long Lap Penalty hanging over him for the Grand Prix itself, so look for him to give it everything over the shorter distance.

Moto2™ looks like being a battle for pole between Diogo Moreira and Senna Agius. The young Aussie was a standout on Friday, and with Moreira’s pocket already full of a 2026 MotoGP™ contract, there will never be a better chance for Agius to add to his British Grand Prix win from earlier in the season.

As usual, there will be a horde of Triumph-powered racers set on a podium finish, including Harrison Voight, the Queenslander looking to make the most of his first of two opportunities to race in the category this month. The Moto2™ field will practise at 9:25am before Qualifying 1 at 1:40pm and Qualifying 2 at 2:05pm.

In Moto3™, Joel Kelso and Jacob Roulstone look to carry the Australian flag high. Kelso is a proven frontrunner, and Roulstone, fresh off a season-best fifth-place finish in Indonesia, wants to display his ability to the Moto3™ world before all the seats are filled for the 2026 season. Where better to do that than at Phillip Island?

The 250cc racers will open proceedings with practice at 8:40am and the two qualifying sessions at 12:45pm and 1:10pm.

If your taste in motorcycles runs to something older, make sure you are seated for the two Superbike Masters races over six laps, starting at 12:10pm and again at 4:10pm.
