Neil Hodgson on the Valentino Rossi retirement rumours

Friday, 4 June 2021

2021 could be The Doctor's final season.

The official Australian Grand Prix podcast In the Fast Lane has released its latest episode, featuring Former World Superbikes champion, MotoGP™ racer and commentator Neil Hodgson.

Hodgson joined In the Fast Lane co-host Matt Clayton and Chris Vermeulen to wrap up Fabio Quartararo's dominant display at the Italian Grand Prix, discuss the retirement rumours surrounding Valentino Rossi, remember his own career highlights and reflect on a tragic Mugello weekend.

Hodgson shares his thoughts on Rossi’s retirement saying battling it out at 19th in the MotoGP™ championship can’t be fun for the nine-time championship winner.

“Is he going to retire at the end of the year? I hope so, he needs to … I’m his number one fan, I love Valentino, what a great guy on and off the track ... but it can’t be fun,” Hodgson said.

“There is a reason there is not more forty-year-olds racing in MotoGP… something happens over time, you naturally lose a bit of speed,” he continued.

The podcast is available on Spotify, Google Podcasts and Apple Podcasts platforms.
