Fabio Quartararo ‘doesn’t care’ about MotoGP™ championship lead

Thursday, 29 April 2021

The Frenchman leads the MotoGP™ standings.

The official Australian Grand Prix podcast In the Fast Lane has released its latest episode featuring current MotoGP™ World Championship leader Fabio Quartararo.

Quartararo joins In the Fast Lane co-hosts Matt Clayton and Chris Vermeulen to discuss his preparations ahead of the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix, his big break in Moto2™, and how life changed following his dramatic rise in MotoGP™.

Following a win in Portugal, the 22-year-old is currently leading the 2021 MotoGP™ World Championship, but Quartararo says he will not let the mounting pressure impact his performance at this weekend’s Spanish GP.

“I’m going race by race. I don’t care that I’m the leader of the championship. I just want to go to Jerez and fight for victory,” he said.

“For me, every race is the first race of the season.

“I have learned from my mistakes in the first one (Qatar Grand Prix) and improved a lot. It was great to do this mistake in the first race to learn so much.”

Quartararo may be turning heads in MotoGP™, but the Frenchman revealed he would love to get behind the wheel of the world’s premier open-wheel class, albeit as a one-off experience.

“That’s a dream. I love cars and I always dream to drive F1. It’s one of my dreams to have that feeling in the car, to just turn so fast. It’s on my mind and I hope it will happen in a few months or a few years,” he added.

The podcast is available on Spotify, Google Podcasts and Apple Podcasts platforms.
