Steve Day: Remy Gardner could be MotoGP™ World Champion

Thursday, 10 June 2021

The Aussie is making his own mark in the sport.

The official Australian Grand Prix podcast In the Fast Lane has released its latest episode, featuring MotoGP™ commentator Steve Day.

Day joined In the Fast Lane co-host Matt Clayton and Chris Vermeulen to discuss the Grand Prix of Catalunya, Fabio Quartararo's bizarre wardrobe malfunction, Jack Miller's latest podium, Remy Gardner's evolution, Valentino Rossi's barren run of results and whether Honda has hit rock-bottom.

With the recent announcement that Remy Gardner will move into the MotoGP™ class next season, Day discusses how Remy has finally been able to step out of his father’s shadow.

“I think for so many years Remy was known as Wayne’s son … but he’s a fighter and he’s moved up so much, I think anyone with a keen eye for the sport would say with the right package and right set up he’s clearly got the talent,” Day said.

“He’s now matched his talent up with this new cool calm approach, he’s matured, he’s come of age, and he’s got to the point now already that I cannot see beyond him for the (Moto2™) championship.”

“I do think he’s got what it takes, genuinely, to be even challenging for a MotoGP World Championship in the coming years,” he continued.

The podcast is available on Spotify, Google Podcasts and Apple Podcasts platforms.
