Second-fastest was Marc Marquez. Running a new aero package on his Honda, the four-time Phillip Island race winner emerged after a miracle save from a slide at MG while he was on course to set the fastest time of the session.

The third fastest was the Ducati Corse entry of Pecco Bagnaia, just ahead of two of the men he is battling for the title. Aleix Espargaro was fourth fastest on his Aprilia, while points leader Fabio Quartararo wrestled his Yamaha to fifth fastest.

Johann Zarco, who had to navigate his way into the session through the first Qualifying session, was next on his Ducati, alongside Luca Marini (Mooney VR46 Ducati) and Aussie Jack Miller. The Townsville racer has experienced set-up challenges on his works Ducati, but he appears to have a solid race pace for Sunday.

Marco Bezzecchi (Ducati), Alex Rins (Suzuki) and Alex Marquez (Honda) were next, ahead of Maverick Viñales (Aprilia).

Remy Gardner will start the race from 19th position on his Tech3 entry, the Aussie ahead of fellow KTM riders Miguel Oliveira and Raul Fernandez.
