Winner of the previous two Moto2 races, it was a visit that didn't end well – he lasted four corners before crashing out with current MotoGP teammate Marco Bezzecchi – but it was a temporary pause to the momentum that he took into 2020, Marini finishing Moto2 championship runner-up to Enea Bastianini and earning a main-game promotion with Ducati.
It's been a tall task for the lanky (184cm) Marini to master since, but there are small green shoots of progress that suggest Valentino Rossi's half-brother is beginning to, ever so methodically, make a name for himself. Only time will tell if that 2020 Moto2 season – the only time he's finished inside the top five in a championship – is more outlier than first stepping stone of someone we should really watch for the future.
