Raul Fernandez’s MotoGP™ career hasn’t yet hit the heights of what preceded it, when he became a Moto3™ front-runner in 2020 before rattling off eight wins in his sole Moto2™ season to finish runner-up to Remy Gardner in 2021. But the arrow is, belatedly, pointing in the right direction for the Spaniard.
A forgettable first MotoGP™ season paired with Gardner at KTM in 2022 saw the Australian leave for World Superbikes, and Fernandez move sideways to Aprilia’s satellite squad, born from the ashes of the RNF Yamaha project. There were only occasional visits to the top 10, but Fernandez showed slivers of progress – and with multiple race-winner Miguel Oliveira as his teammate, any comparative results of note come with a little extra credibility.
Still just 23, Fernandez has some time on his side, but the conveyor belt of his compatriots itching for their premier-class chance ups the ante in 2024.
