A Spaniard with eye-watering pace and unshakable self-belief who blitzed the junior classes before arriving in MotoGP™ as a teenager … if you think that sounds like Marc Marquez 2013, you’d be right. Fast-forward 11 years, and all the signs suggest Pedro Acosta is the best prospect since the six-time premier-class champ; the stats certainly back up that assertion.
Ever since he won his second Moto3™ start in Qatar in 2021 – starting from pit lane in a 28-bike field – Acosta’s ascension to the premier class has been a matter of when, not if. So desperate was KTM to keep him in their stable – which they memorably didn’t with Marquez – that Pol Espargaro was ousted to accommodate Acosta at GasGas alongside his old Moto2™ teammate, Augusto Fernandez.
It’s unlikely to be a long stay for Acosta, who surely has the top-tier KTM team – and victories, plural – in his very near future.
