Acosta might be five-plus years away from his peak, yet showed no fear in fighting wheel-to-wheel with Marquez and the rest of MotoGP’s heaviest hitters as a debutant while simultaneously being unimpressed by the rapidity of his rise. Not winning a Grand Prix for the first time in his four-year world championship career irked him, despite Ducati almost locking out the top step of the podium for the season. Acosta wants more, and wanted it yesterday.
A berth at KTM’s main team in place of Jack Miller was inevitable; what he does with it, with Brad Binder as a strong benchmark in the same garage and after the Austrian manufacturer endured an off-season of unsettling news, makes him perhaps the rider to watch.
