There's a restlessness to Jorge Martin that suggests the Spaniard knows where he's going; it's just a matter of how long it takes to get there.

It wasn't that Martin didn't arrive in MotoGP in 2021 without pedigree; the 2018 Moto3 champion, the Madrid native won races in Moto2 before stepping up. Forget playing himself in slowly, though; Martin was on pole in just his second premier-class start, and the first 10 Grands Prix of his rookie season featured a pole, a win in Austria and four races missed with hand and foot fractures after a massive Portimao practice crash. By the end of the year, he was giving Ducati stablemate and the sport's form rider, Pecco Bagnaia, a serious hurry-up.
Everything about Martin screams urgency; just how quickly he's able to put together a sustained championship run looks like it'll depend on patience more than a lack of pace.
