Is Jorge Martin fast enough to be world champion? Yes. Might he have squandered his best chance in the short-term to do just that after letting Pecco Bagnaia escape from his clutches in 2023? Perhaps.

If MotoGP™ was a one-lap time trial, Martin would be the gold standard. Same if MotoGP™ was a Sprint championship – he scored 28 more points in Sprints than anyone else last year. But more laps equates to more chances for things to go sideways for the Spaniard, who binned it from a big lead in Indonesia, turned a win into fifth in Australia with a baffling tyre choice, and ended the season vanquished in the Valencia gravel.

With Bagnaia buoyed by back-to-back titles, Marc Marquez joining Ducati’s stable and KTM rising, competition at the front figures to be tougher. We’ll soon see if Martin has learned from 2023 so he can remain in the mix.
