Aldeguer looks the part – he’s a physically-imposing 181cm/69kg package that always looked too big for Moto2 machinery – and while he’s unlikely to reprise the generational results of last year’s Spanish teen debutant Pedro Acosta, there’s plenty of optimism surrounding Marc Marquez’s successor at Gresini Ducati.
Aldeguer’s atypical path to MotoGP™ – he bypassed Moto3 and raced in MotoE before his first full-time Moto2 season in 2022 – hasn’t hampered his progress, a run of four straight wins as an 18-year-old to close 2023 making him a prime candidate for elevation with whichever factory was prepared to step forward.
Last year’s Moto2 campaign wasn’t quite as stellar, three wins (including Australia) notwithstanding, but there’s plenty of potential for upside, and a two-year deal direct to Ducati’s factory to buy him some time.
